Whether you are looking for a job or running a business, giving out business cards is crucial to marketing your skills or services. Even as a job seeker, develop the mindset of running the business of YOU, Inc. Business cards speak volumes about who you are, what you offer and how serious you are marketing YOU, Inc. as a business. Oh! So, you have a resume and don’t need business cards. Can you carry 10 resumes in your wallet’ Do you or can you carry your resume everywhere you go’ A church bell ringing lets people know they are open for business. Your business card is your bell. Here are some proven tips using business cards to increase your chances of landing a job or creating a business opportunity.
Know Forces that Fall into the Category of “Beyond My Control.” Are there things you and the other party have no control over that can change the outcome of the negotiation or would change your needs in the negotiation? With that in mind, run those mind-reading scenarios through given the various options.
Always remember that networking is a two way street. While there are certainly a few big hearted philanthropists who are happy to give without expecting anything in return, most of us are more attracted by the idea of a mutually beneficial relationship. Offer to be helpful whenever you can, even if your ability to do so is limited. The gesture will not go unappreciated.
Become a good resource. When others feel that you are knowledgeable in your industry or field, they will come to you for advice and/or a request for services. Don’t you feel more comfortable doing business with someone you feel is an expert in their field?

Ask a question that makes the other person give a response (rather than a yes/no question). Introduce yourself to others. Ask a question to the other person or persons.
Networking isn’t just about meeting people face to face, although this is an important strategy in your business. There are great ways of connecting with people online with various networking groups including Ecademy, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and more. But don’t forget to go out too as the relationships you develop face-to-face will be essential for your business, but the joy of social networking is that you can continue to keep in touch even when you don’t have time to leave the office.
